U.S. Tariffs May Raise Malaysia’s Healthcare Costs, But Public Still Shielded
Public health expert Prof Dr Sharifa Ezat Wan Puteh said costs for procedures like cardiac treatments may rise due to pricier imported components. Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad noted that local pharmaceutical firms also face higher procurement costs.
Despite pressure, public healthcare remains affordable. Sharifa urged Malaysia to diversify supply chains, boost local manufacturing, and implement reforms, including new healthcare financing and greater investment in primary care.
