Secretary Datuk Mustapha Yaakub claimed the move aimed to obliterate the legendary name tied to KTMB’s founding in 1885. He argued that KTMB, a symbol of Malaysia’s progress, thrives without needing a modern name, as it already provides cutting-edge transport. The proposal, sparked by an individual’s view that the words are outdated, was deemed unnecessary, threatening to disconnect the railway’s storied past from Malaysia’s modern identity.
