Penang Backs Federal Plan to Expand Data Sharing Laws

Penang is fully supportive of the federal government’s push to introduce legislation similar to the Data Sharing Act 2024 at the state level. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and other state leaders welcomed the plan, which aims to create a seamless data-sharing ecosystem across federal, state, and local agencies.

Penang Backs Federal Plan to Expand Data Sharing Laws

The Act, which took effect yesterday, enhances collaboration and digital transformation through structured data access. Gobind added that legal officers have been deployed to states to explain implementation procedures, with hopes that similar laws will be passed nationwide by year’s end to support digital governance.
