PETALING JAYA: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang downplayed Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Ayer Kuning by-election win, attributing it to the Umno-DAP alliance, dubbed “UmDAP,” which he accused of promoting liberal ideologies and cleansing DAP’s anti-Islam image. Hadi claimed Malay-Muslim voters rejected this alliance, citing controversies like pig farming in Malay areas. He alleged UmDAP prioritizes power and protects allies from corruption charges while targeting opponents. BN’s Yusri Bakir won with a 5,006-vote majority, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Abd Muhaimin Malek and PSM’s KS Bawani. Analysts noted PN’s focus on Malay issues alienated moderate and multiethnic voters, contributing to their loss.
