PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s beloved dishes have become pricier, with roti canai prices up 71.1% (RM1.54), nasi lemak 81.3% (RM3.68), and chicken satay 113.7% (RM1.09) from 2011 to 2024, per the Statistics Department’s 2024 CPI Analysis. Imported big onions surged 139.4% to RM6.92/kg, while local beef nearly doubled to RM37.84/kg. Cockles saw the steepest rise, up 400.3% to RM15.21/kg. Despite these spikes, Malaysia’s inflation slowed to 1.8% in 2024 from 2.5% in 2023, aligning with global trends (5.7% vs. 6.6%). The CPI rose to 132.8 points, reflecting higher costs for everyday staples.
