Malaysia’s Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, emphasized the urgent need to reform the country’s sex education syllabus, citing data that most teens become sexually active before 14, while lessons only begin at 15.

After a roundtable with 40 youth, religious, and community groups, she noted outdated methods are ineffective against rising social issues. She called for digital solutions and greater online engagement. 

Youth participation in physical clubs is declining, showing a preference for virtual platforms. She stressed that troubled youth need rehabilitation, not punishment. The Education and Health Ministries are reviewing syllabus improvements to address these complex, evolving challenges.
