China’s durian imports from Malaysia are expected to grow by 15–20% this year, driven by strong consumer demand despite weather-related crop challenges. Premium varieties like Musang King and D24 remain highly sought after, with farm prices reaching up to RM80 per kg during off-season.

Loh Wee Keng of the Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China emphasized the need to protect durian brand integrity, warning against mislabeling.

He noted China’s support for Malaysian durians since exports began in 2010, and said local attempts to grow Musang King in Hainan haven’t matched Malaysia’s quality due to differences in soil and climate.
