Starbucks Kuantan Shuts Down After 21 Years Amid Boycott Pressure

After 21 years of operations, Kuantan’s first Starbucks outlet in Berjaya Megamall officially closed on April 30, following a wave of boycott movements that have impacted business nationwide.

According to employees, they were only notified days before closure, with no official reason provided. A visit to the outlet revealed limited drink options and cleared merchandise shelves. Fortunately, affected staff were reassigned to the East Coast Mall outlet. 

While this isn’t the only Starbucks in Kuantan, it reflects a larger trend, with the final Kelantan outlet having shut down in December 2024, marking the 50th closure to date in Malaysia.
