Penang is expanding its durian tourism campaign to new international markets, including India, Australia, Europe, and the Middle East, ahead of the May–August durian season. State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said tourists can enjoy fresh durians at orchards while exploring the state’s attractions.
Penang Targets New Markets for Durian Tourism This Season
Promotional brochures have been distributed at Penang International Airport, and the state is collaborating with orchard owners and hotels to offer tasting packages. Despite a potential drop in durian yield due to rain, prices are expected to remain reasonable. Hotels report a 40–50% surge in bookings during peak durian season from June to July.
