Perlis Sees 31% Rise in Sexual Crimes, Most Involving Underage Victims

Sexual crime cases in Perlis have surged by 31% this year, rising to 51 cases from 39 in 2023, according to state police chief Datuk Muhammad Abdul Halim. He revealed that 98% of the cases involved consensual sexual acts between suspects and underage victims, with alarming instances of girls aged 12 to 16 becoming pregnant.

The misuse of social media platforms like TikTok, WhatsApp, and Facebook was cited as a key contributing factor. To combat this trend, police are expanding child awareness campaigns in schools and kindergartens, while also urging the public to report such cases.
