DAP Melaka clarified that the proposed 14-14 seat split between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) for the upcoming state election is only a state-level proposal, not an official central DAP policy. DAP Melaka’s publicity secretary, Kerk Chee Yee, said no formal seat negotiations have occurred, as such matters are handled by top party leaders. The proposal, based on PH’s strong GE15 performance, was approved at nine branch AGMs. Chee Yee, also Ayer Keroh assemblyman, urged UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh to raise objections at his branch AGM, respecting democratic expression. BN, dominant in Melaka’s assembly, rejected ceding seats to PH.
