MCA vice-president Tan Teik Cheng has questioned whether Penang is facing a financial crisis, citing reports of potential cuts to the iSejahtera welfare programme and a sharp drop in state reserves from RM1.8 billion in 2018 to RM50 million. Tan called on Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to clarify if the state is reducing aid and raising eligibility age due to financial difficulties, especially amid rising living costs. Chow acknowledged the need to review iSejahtera due to increasing costs and registrant numbers, but assured the programme will continue with adjusted resources, not be discontinued.
