KUALA LUMPUR: PKR deputy president candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar labeled the third extension of MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s tenure as “unwelcome,” citing the need for reform. Azam’s reappointment, approved by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, has drawn criticism due to perceptions that the anti-graft commission has been slow to investigate the Sabah corruption scandal involving multiple assemblypersons. “This was an unwelcome extension. The party (PKR) needs to stand for reforms,” Nurul Izzah said on X. Her stance, a rare public critique of her father’s administration, underscores concerns over transparency and accountability in Malaysia’s anti-corruption efforts.
