Ramasamy: Najib Was More Sympathetic to Indians Than Other PMs

Urimai chairman P. Ramasamy echoed MIC leaders in saying Najib Razak contributed significantly to the Indian community, particularly in education. He noted Najib was less racially divisive than other leaders, approving nearly RM1 billion for Tamil schools during his tenure. 

Ramasamy: Najib Was More Sympathetic to Indians Than Other PMs

While praising his openness, Ramasamy questioned if allocated funds truly benefited intended recipients. He emphasized Najib’s approach did not challenge Malaysia’s systemic racial structure. 

A Merdeka Center survey found 62.2% of Indian respondents supported a royal pardon for Najib, despite his conviction in the 1MDB scandal. His sentence was later reduced to six years and RM50 million by the Pardons Board.
