RM1 Million Gone: Love Scam Victim Sent Money in 166 Transfers

A 53-year-old woman lost nearly RM1 million in a love scam after being duped by a man she met on Facebook, who claimed to be from Yemen. According to Kedah police, the victim believed she was in a relationship with the man, who gifted her rings and promised marriage.

He later claimed he was hospitalized and needed money for treatment. Over two months, she transferred RM925,850 in 166 transactions to 15 bank accounts. The scam became apparent when he failed to arrive in Malaysia and blocked her online. Police urge the public to verify suspicious transactions through the Semak Mule app or hotline 997.
