Malaysia Targets Major Boost in Public Transport with New LRT, Bus Lanes

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd aims to boost public transport usage in Malaysia to 40% by 2030, with ridership projected to rise from 1.3 million in 2024 to 1.5 million in 2025. President and CEO Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said key initiatives include the LRT3 Shah Alam line, more dedicated bus lanes, improved pedestrian access, and the expansion of Rapid KL’s on-demand service.

Prasarana is also adding electric buses to support sustainability. With strategic planning and government support, the agency is optimistic about hitting its target. Current usage remains low at 25%, well behind cities like Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo.
