In a heartfelt Teachers’ Day message, former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, soon to turn 100 in July, reminisced about his schooling days when parents entrusted teachers with full authority, even permitting caning for discipline. Sharing a video on Facebook, Mahathir acknowledged the shift away from corporal punishment but stressed the enduring link between teachers and discipline. He praised educators for shaping children’s futures and instilling values beyond academics. “If you listen to the teacher, life will be organised and successful,” he said, paying tribute to teachers as vital architects of the nation’s future.
