Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh rebuked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for criticizing supporters of former premier Najib Abdul Razak, denying an “obsession” with the 1MDB scandal. Akmal defended Najib’s right to serve his reduced six-year sentence under house arrest, as granted by the former Agong, and urged acceptance of the royal decision. Responding to Anwar’s Al-Jazeera interview, where he called the focus on Najib a “nasty trick” to distract from other corruption cases, Akmal likened Najib’s supporters to Anwar’s past defenders, emphasizing fairness. “Just like your supporters who believed that you deserve a fair trial, we also feel the same in Najib’s case. “So, do not worry, PMX,” he said.
