Wanita MCA has sounded the alarm over a record-low Chinese birth rate in Malaysia, with only 7,350 Chinese babies born in 2025’s first four months, down 8.6% from last year, per the Statistics Department. National chairperson Wong You Fong called it a “demographic crisis” threatening the community’s political, economic, and cultural influence. She attributed the decline to economic pressures—high living costs, unaffordable housing, and childcare shortages—discouraging young families. Wong urged systemic reforms and educational efforts to promote family-building, warning that without urgent action, the Chinese community risks marginalization, undermining Malaysia’s multicultural balance.
