KOTA BHARU, May 17, 2025 — PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli claimed he played a critical role in the 2018 electoral seat negotiations, preventing PKR from being “eaten alive” by Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Rafizi accused rival Nurul Izzah Anwar of downplaying his efforts while Anwar Ibrahim was imprisoned. He said he and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail led negotiations with Mahathir’s Bersatu, securing PKR’s seats despite Mahathir’s push for Bersatu to contest PKR strongholds. He explained that Mahathir wanted Bersatu to contest in many constituencies, including PKR’s traditional strongholds and that would made Mahathir eat PKR alive. Nurul Izzah says she played a big role then.
