In Petaling Jaya, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli announced that the RON95 fuel subsidy rationalisation plan is now under the Finance Ministry’s purview, following a Cabinet decision. The government initially opted for rationalisation to address fiscal strain and ensure subsidies benefit lower-income groups, prompted by rising global oil prices and a ballooning subsidy bill. Rafizi noted four prior Cabinet discussions, with the Finance Ministry tasked to finalise details. Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan earlier said the mechanism is being refined, with an announcement expected post-June. Rafizi urged awaiting the Finance Ministry’s official update for clarity on the targeted subsidy’s implementation.
