Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif revealed that some Public Housing (PA) tenants have not paid rent for up to 26 years, with arrears reaching RM39,140 per unit. Overall rent arrears in the capital’s PPR and PA schemes now total RM70 million.

The worst-hit areas are PPR Kampung Muhibbah (RM1.9 million) and PPR Desa Rejang (RM1.28 million). Although City Hall has eviction powers, most tenants are from the B40 income group, prompting a more empathetic approach. Measures include locking water meters, public notices, and instalment plans. Maimunah stressed the need for tenants to prioritise rent despite financial struggles.
