In Putrajaya, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad expressed skepticism about Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s potential return as Prime Minister, stating Najib would likely revert to his “cash is king” approach, distributing money to gain support. Speaking at a dialogue on 21st-century economic challenges, Mahathir suggested Najib, if reinstated, should apologize and admit past mistakes. Najib was convicted in 2020 for misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International, receiving a 12-year sentence and RM210 million fine, later halved in 2024. He began his sentence in August 2022 and may be released in 2028, or 2029 if the RM50 million fine remains unpaid.
