For the first time since 2018, more people globally view China as a more positive force in world affairs than the United States, according to an Ipsos survey of 22,000 adults across 29 countries.

China received a 49% favorability rating, overtaking the US at 46%. Confidence in the US has dropped, even among key allies like Japan, South Korea, and Canada. In Malaysia, approval for the US slipped slightly, while views of China remained strong.
Ipsos linked the US decline to Trump’s recent “Liberation Day” tariffs. Despite global uncertainty, Malaysian consumer confidence remains steady, though experts warn of potential volatility ahead.
