US President Donald Trump has extended a key tariff negotiation deadline with the European Union to 9 July, following a call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Trump Extends 50% EU Tariff Talks Deadline to 9 July
Trump, frustrated with slow progress, had threatened to raise tariffs on EU goods to 50% by 1 June. Currently, a reduced 10% tariff is in place, down from an initially announced 20%.
EU officials reiterated their commitment to a fair deal, with trade chief Maroš Šefčovič warning against threats. Despite tensions, both sides appear open to negotiation, with EU leaders stressing the need to avoid escalation and protect mutual economic interests.
