The Indonesian Online Drivers Union (SPOI) revealed that at least 12 drivers and riders have died due to extreme overwork, including one who reportedly starved to death while waiting for a delivery order.
Protesters highlighted the unsustainable working conditions—often up to 18 hours daily for only IDR300,000 (RM78). SPOI accused the government of neglecting gig workers’ rights for over a decade, calling for immediate regulatory intervention.
