A pharmacy in Terengganu was fined RM50,000 by the Sessions Court for misleading consumers over a RM2 price discrepancy. Lau & Tan Pharmacy sold a product at RM91.90 while its displayed price was RM89.80, violating Section 12(1)(a) of the Consumer Protection Act 1999.

The incident occurred in May 2022 at Chabang Tiga Commercial Centre. Judge Nazlyza Mohamad Nazri, citing the need for deterrence, delivered the sentence after prosecutors proved the case beyond reasonable doubt. 

The managing director, Datuk Lau Tiam Kwee, represented the company. Prosecutors emphasized the importance of consumer rights and fair pricing in retail practices.
