Anita Damu, 57, had her prison sentence increased in Singapore from two years and seven months to seven years after appealing for leniency, claiming auditory hallucinations drove her to abuse her Indonesian maid between 2014 and 2015. The High Court, led by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, rejected her claim as a fabrication on May 26, 2025, deeming the initial sentence inadequate. Anita’s abuse, including burning and hitting the 29-year-old maid, was uncovered in 2015. She pleaded guilty to five charges and paid $12,000 in compensation. The prosecution’s appeal for a harsher penalty was upheld.
