SHAH ALAM, June 1, 2025 — MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong warned that mandating commercial 14kg LPG cylinders for food premises, costing RM70 compared to RM26 previously—a 170% hike—will raise living costs. The policy, effective May 1, targets large-scale premises like hotels and industrial kitchens using over three cylinders monthly. Wee highlighted the domino effect on food prices, as higher gas costs will inflate meal prices. He also criticized the permit requirement for businesses exceeding 42kg monthly, with non-compliance risking seizures under Ops Gasak, burdening small traders striving to earn a living.
