KUALA LUMPUR, June 1, 2025 — Umno leaders have criticized Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s decision to join PKR, with supreme council member Puad Zarkashi claiming he could face RM100 million in damages for breaching his Barisan Nasional pledge. Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urged Zafrul to resign as minister, noting party members’ delight at his exit. However, Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan downplayed the move, citing fluid Malaysian politics. PKR’s Adam Adli warned of potential strain in Umno-PKR ties but expressed hope for an amicable resolution, noting no formal application has been received yet.
