Penang’s state government will revisit its recent move to offer a 5% housing discount exclusively to first-time Indian Muslim homebuyers, following public feedback calling for broader inclusivity.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced that State Housing Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo has been tasked with reviewing the policy alongside developers to potentially extend the discount to all buyers.

The incentive, part of the Madani Inclusive Property Sector Catalyst Policy (MOC), aims to reduce Penang’s overhang of unsold units. The state currently has 2,796 unsold residential properties, prompting officials to explore more socially just and inclusive intervention measures.
