Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad announced RM1,000 in aid for each family of the victims involved in the tragic Gerik bus crash that claimed 15 lives. Speaking from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary, Saarani also said Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) would offer counselling for the victims’ families.

The crash occurred at 1.10am along KM53 of the East-West Highway near Tasik Banding, when a chartered bus carrying UPSI students rear-ended a Perodua Alza, causing the bus to overturn. Thirteen students died at the scene, and two others succumbed to injuries at Gerik Hospital.
