May’s US nonfarm payrolls rose by 139,000, surpassing forecasts, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%, lifting the US dollar index to 99.190. Despite this, signs of softening in the US labour market remain. The Ringgit also slipped against most major and ASEAN currencies, although it slightly strengthened versus the yen and Thai baht.
