The list of items that will be receiving a 5% sales tax has been a subject of debate among social media users. Some find it necessary in lieu of the economic outlook, while others feel that the taxes may make it difficult for those who are already in a tough spot.
Even Najib did not tax imported fruits under GST
An X user uploaded a screenshot of items that were not taxed under former Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Razak’s GST. The user adds that fruits were left untaxed, including those that are imported. Now it seems that imported fruits may receive the tax coming 1st July.
Social media users ask why isn’t GST re-introduced to the country if it is really needed. Some are confused as they feel either way, it is a similar form of taxation.
