The Malaysian government is finalizing a new policy to mandate the use of speed limiters in heavy vehicles, aiming to enhance road safety and prevent fatal accidents. Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized the government’s commitment to closing loopholes and preventing manipulation of safety mechanisms.

The announcement follows a tragic crash involving a chartered bus and an MPV near Tasik Banding, Gerik, which claimed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students’ lives and injured 33 others. 

Loke reaffirmed that the government will not compromise on safety and is prioritizing the protection of road users from reckless and unsafe heavy vehicle operations.
