Ex-research assistant Yusoff Rawther pleads not guilty to cannabis trafficking charges

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court acquitted Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, 32, of drug trafficking and possession of imitation firearms charges on June 12, 2025. Judge Datuk Muhammad Jamil Hussin ruled the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case for the September 6, 2024, incident involving 305g of cannabis found in Yusoff’s vehicle near the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters. Yusoff, who claimed the items were planted, was freed after nine months in detention. He continues to pursue a sexual assault lawsuit against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, filed in 2021, scheduled for June 2025.
