Following a tragic bus crash on June 9, 2025, at KM53 of the East-West Highway near Gerik, Perak, the Malaysian government announced financial aid for affected families. The accident, involving a Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student bus and a Perodua Alza, claimed 15 lives and injured 33. Government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim approved RM10,000 for each bereaved family and RM5,000 for the injured. Anwar also directed the Attorney-General’s Chambers to ensure insurance support, addressing the aftermath of the devastating collision on the dark, winding highway stretch
