PSM has criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani government over its planned expansion of the sales and services tax (SST) to imported fruits, warning it could spark public anger like the GST did under BN. PSM’s K Arveent questioned why everyday fruits like apples and oranges are treated as luxuries while the rich are spared from meaningful taxation. He also highlighted contradictions in government policies, such as the eviction of farmers, undermining local food production. Muda’s Amira Aisya likened Anwar’s avocado remark to Najib’s infamous quinoa comment, warning the SST move may hurt low-income Malaysians’ nutrition.
