The announcement of the Trump phone, which is said to be “eventually” manufactured in the U.S., has triggered global reactions. However, a journalist on X pointed out that Malaysia’s UMNO introduced the first government-backed phone for the public a decade earlier.

A Malaysian tech news agency announced the launch of a political party-branded phone back in 2015. However, many social media users argue that the United States still lags in some areas of technological adoption — pointing out, for example, the limited use of QR code payments.
Currently the Trump T1 phone will set you back around US $500 (RM2,124.) There are an abundance of less than positive comments with regards to this new telecommunications device released by the Trump administration.
The smartphone market is a highly competitive market as Huawei, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi are the dominant forces in the industry. It would be challenging for Trump’s smartphone to compete with these major companies.
