KUALA LUMPUR, June 21, 2025 – Malaysia has shuttered its embassy in Iran, with Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan ordering all diplomatic staff to return home due to escalating Middle East tensions sparked by Israeli airstrikes. “I’ve instructed everyone, including the ambassador, to leave,” Hasan said, noting some countries have followed suit. While most Malaysians were urged to exit, three students in Qom and one in Isfahan remain. The Foreign Ministry warned of Iran’s volatile situation, as the Higher Education Ministry monitors seven identified students, some self-sponsored, amid ongoing evacuation efforts.
