The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) marked a historic moment with the promotion of Major General Johnny Lim to lieutenant-general, making him the first Malaysian Chinese to attain the prestigious three-star rank.

The ceremony, officiated by MAF chief Nizam Jaffar and attended by top commanders, underscored the forces’ commitment to merit-based advancement and inclusivity. Lim, a Melaka native, received his early education at SK and SMK St Francis and began his military career with the 25th Regular Commissioning Course.

He later trained at the renowned Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the UK before joining the Ranger Regiment. His promotion sets a new benchmark in Malaysian military history.
