GEORGE TOWN, June 24 – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has renewed his call for the federal government to share 20% of taxes collected from the state, proposing a 10% start if needed. Speaking at a press conference, he highlighted Penang’s second-highest investment contribution and urged collaboration with other states to address revenue constraints. Chow emphasized funding needs for infrastructure and social welfare, supported by Gooi Hsiao Leung’s call for SST revenue sharing and a federal-state fiscal commission. He stressed mutual understanding, noting the state’s reliance on ad-hoc federal grants under the current fiscal framework.
