PETALING JAYA: PAS must promote intellectual and moderate leaders to counter its extremist image among non-Malays and gain wider support, says analyst Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara. Commenting on Alor Setar PAS’s nomination of election director Sanusi Nor for vice-president, Hassan emphasized the need for leaders who can ease non-Malay fears. Analyst Syaza Shukri noted Sanusi’s strong grassroots support, predicting a competitive race for the vice-presidency in PAS’s September elections. Sanusi, Kedah’s menteri besar, previously declined the role in 2023. Current vice-presidents include Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Idris Ahmad, and Amar Abdullah.
