Selangor Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir reaffirmed that liberalism and religious pluralism contradict Islamic teachings and may mislead Muslims. He stated that despite the Federal Court’s ruling excluding Sisters in Islam (SIS) Forum Malaysia from a 2014 fatwa, the fatwa remains binding on individual Muslims.

The fatwa, issued under Syariah law, prohibits beliefs deemed contrary to Islam. Anhar warned Muslims against being influenced by liberal ideas disguised as human rights. He also supported the Sultan of Selangor’s concern over the court decision and reiterated the department’s role in safeguarding Islamic teachings from deviation and confusion within the community.
