UMS Student Now Defends Anwar Caricature Burning: Anwar Burnt Tunku's Book

KOTA KINABALU – A final-year Universiti Malaysia Sabah student, Fadhil Kasim, has justified burning a caricature of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during an anti-corruption rally, drawing parallels to Anwar’s 1970 protest at Universiti Malaya. As UM Malay Language Society president, Anwar led a public burning of Tunku Abdul Rahman’s book “13 Mei,” deemed subversive. Fadhil, a Suara Mahasiswa UMS spokesperson, criticized current Anwar supporters in Abim and PKR Youth for overlooking this history, sharing 1970 magazine images to support his stance. The act mirrors Anwar’s past, highlighting a shift in his allies’ perspectives.
