KOTA KINABALU, June 27, 2025 — Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has quashed rumours of stepping aside in the upcoming state election, confirming he will defend his Lamag seat and aims to become chief minister. Bung, who rebuilt Sabah Umno’s membership to 615,000 after a 2018 exodus, warned that sidelining him could collapse the party. He addressed tensions with deputy Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, aligned with the GRS-led government, and dismissed his candidacy prospects in Hajiji Noor’s Sulaman stronghold. Bung emphasized selecting winnable candidates despite internal jostling, vowing to lead Umno without interference.
