PETALING JAYA, June 27, 2025 — Former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has criticized the government’s decision to “restructure and reshape” the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) as a hasty move that could undermine its credibility. He questioned the timing of the overhaul, announced by Chief Secretary Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, noting it comes close to the final print deadline, potentially bypassing expert input from the Inter-Agency Planning Group and Technical Working Groups.
Rafizi highlighted that the 13MP, developed by civil servants in under a year, followed a thorough process involving state governments, industry, and MPs. He warned that last-minute changes, possibly driven by social media criticism, risk politicizing the plan and eroding public trust. Rafizi emphasized that such a move would disrespect the civil servants’ year-long efforts and urged the government to avoid undermining the national development blueprint’s integrity.
