In Bachok, Deputy Works Minister Ahmad Maslan identified heavy vehicles carrying excess loads and harsh weather as key causes of nationwide road damage. Speaking after a UMNO meeting, he revealed that the Ministry of Works requires RM4 billion to repair and upgrade roads but has only received RM2 billion due to budget constraints. Ahmad proposed redirecting road taxes and fines from the Road Transport Department to fund repairs, a suggestion still awaiting response. He urged stakeholders to propose higher taxes on heavy vehicles to the Finance and Transport Ministries to address the issue.
