No VEP, No Exit: Malaysia Imposes RM300 Fine on Foreign Vehicles

Starting July 1, all Singaporean vehicles entering Malaysia without a valid Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) will face a RM300 fine, in full enforcement of Section 66H(7) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Vehicles without activated RFID VEP tags may be barred from exiting Malaysia.

The RM10 tag, valid for five years, is mandatory for entry via Johor Causeway and Second Link, along with a RM20 road charge per entry. Payments are cashless, through JPJ counters or online. As of June 2, over 36,000 issued tags remained inactive. The Transport Ministry emphasized safety, enforcement, and smoother cross-border vehicle tracking.
