In Putra Heights, a gas pipe explosion shocked residents, caused by soil subsidence (Soil subsidence, also known as land or ground subsidence, is the downward settling or sinking of the Earth’s surface) shifting the pipe 15.9cm since its installation in 2000. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari explained, “The impact from the subsidence caused the pipe to move by 15.9cm and this was found after analysing samples from the pipe that showed signs of fatigue and stress lines on the structure.” The investigation revealed water accumulation weakened the soil, worsened by environmental factors like monsoon drainage and high population density. A special committee will soon recommend preventive actions.
